Shortly after Curation won the Best Student Game award, we received an email from the events coordinator for the UoP, asking our producer if they could take a build of Curation to their stand at the EGX section of Comic-Con London.
We quickly raced to push out a build with all of our new features - saving/loading, some more objects to place, improved UX, and a new room dragger. After just about managing it on the morning of the deadline, we sent it over.
I then bought my tickets for Friday and Sunday at Comic Con, got a place to stay with a friend, then headed to London for the weekend. The Friday was great - I got to watch a number of interesting talks on the games industry and even a Baldur’s Gate 3 panel. Unfortunately, the University couldn’t get their computer working, so Curation was running on a very low-spec laptop (at 4k resolution, which we found out later), resulting in choppy gameplay.
Thankfully, this was fixed on Saturday, and Curation was running buttery smooth as usual - by the time I came back on Sunday, a number of people had really enjoyed their time with the game, and even asked for the Steam page (which was unfortunately still work in progress at that point). I spent a lot of time with my friends, and had a much more relaxed day of visiting the various stalls around the convention. I also volunteered to help at the UoP stand for a little bit, too, to talk to prospective students while the usual people attending were on a break.
Overall, it was great to see a game that I worked so hard on be experienced by so many people, as well as having a great time at the convention more generally!
