TIGA Best Student Game

After submitting Curation for the TIGA Best Student Game award, we received news a couple of months ago that we had made the shortlist, which we were ecstatic about. TIGA is a non-profit that represents the UK’s video games industry, and hosts 2 awards ceremonies each year, one for industry, and one for the universities that teach relevant courses.

Upon reading the list of nominees (and having played some of them, even one at the Barclay’s Game Frenzy a few months prior), I was sure one of the other games would win the crown jewel of awards at the show. As the livestream started, I watched alongside a couple of friends from the course, knowing that the award would be given out at the very end. The tension could be cut with a knife as the nominees were read out.

As the winner was announced, I jumped out of my chair in a mixture of surprise and happiness - but mostly surprise. The group discord pretty quickly flooded with messages of reactions and congratulations from the client, lecturers, and other students alike.

Some of the other group members and I will continue to work on the project to bring to the point of a Steam release in the near future, which would mark an important moment in our careers - the first shipped title! I also want to wish the next group of students on the new equivalent project the best of luck - they have a unique opportunity to make it 3 years in a row of the same project at Portsmouth winning the award!

Here is the game being announced as the winner at the TIGA ceremony:
